Hankook Tire Co., Ltd, the world’s tenth largest tire manufacturer and with its about 40 % market share number one in its home country, South Korea, has ordered a buffer storage for green tires from Cimcorp.
Hankook Tire makes a full range of passenger car radial tires, light truck radial tires, truck and bus radial tires. Hankook tires are sold in more than 200 countries worldwide.
Cimcorp’s equipment will be installed to compensate the fluctuations in the pace of production processes. The buffer storage manages and stores green tires between the tire building lines and curing lines. The green tires are handled and stored by two MBR800 type robots called TirePick. The stored tires are on pallets. The automation of this previously manually operated production phase increases productivity tremendously and offers clear ergonomic improvements. The TyrePick storage system developed by Cimcorp is a compact and flexible solution capable of handling more than 100 different types of truck and bus radial tires with a capacity of about 4500 tires a day or max. 270 tires an hour. The system is equipped with Cimcorp-OPS software which manages the storage and keeps up-to-date information on tires. The storage operates according to the FIFO principle. The total automation of the process phase includes also a conveyor system for the infeed and outfeed of tires, rail guided vehicles for tending of presses as well as a host control system.
Cimcorp has developed its TyrePick solution especially for buffer storing of green tires and ready-made tires. It is based on a large-area robot type MBR800.
This equipment will be installed at Hankook’s Daejeon plant. Hankook has another tire manufacturing plant in Geumsan, South Korea, and two plants in China. Both parties see opportunities for future co-operation in automation of buffer storages.
