Projects are the core of Cimcorp functions, and as a project manager, Timo has a very responsible position. He needs decision-making and communication skills when advancing projects in challenging situations. Clear sense of community within Cimcorp supports the work, as well as humane values the company holds.
Curious by nature
Ever since he was a young boy, Timo has been interested in everything and anything technical. ”I’ve been reading technology magazines ever since I learned to read, and took my electrical toys apart to understand how they were constructed,” Timo recalls. As a result, it was a natural evolvement to pursue studies within electrical power engineering.
Before starting at Cimcorp, Timo had already accepted and started a job in another city. When he was invited for a job interview at Cimcorp, he didn’t think he would be considered for the job because he did not have any experience of the PLC engineering that was needed. However, he thought wrong, and the rest is history.
Project management with people skills
After working in PLC software, Timo proceeded to project management. Working as a project manager requires well-rounded skills, but it’s the experience that helps you to manage a project on the go.
There are aspects of projects that aren’t written in black and white that you have to realize, and that can only be gained through experience.
Project management starts when you receive a new project from sales, and then you proceed with it until the very end. According to Timo, “This job requires decision making ability, communication skills, people skills, initiative to take things forward, while maintaining harmony within the team”. You have to be diplomatic in this kind of job. You cannot avoid conflicts but you have to understand the viewpoints of the different parties. Good humor every now and then goes a long way.”
Human values behind success
At one point years ago, Timo wanted to see how it would be to work for another company. The time Timo spent away from Cimcorp was a great learning experience for him, as he says, “The grass isn’t really greener on the other side. Cimcorp really is like one big happy family. You can sit with anyone at the cafeteria across department borders and you will always find company. Cimcorp is not just an employer, it’s a lifestyle.”
Timo believes that, although a robotics provider, Cimcorp must remain a humane company. ”We have to be easily approachable, trustworthy and have the reputation of being good guys. The robots don’t communicate with people, humans do,” Timo concludes.

The deal breaker was that my first project would be in Australia, which was too exciting to turn down. To this day, Juha still reminisces about his time spent in Australia. “It was a life changing experience."
